This heavier fabric works quite well during the late Winter and early Spring months. In Winter, I wear an inner layer of 100% Cashmere ( from a thrift shop, then a light St. James striped shirt, topped off with a heavy cotton 1/4 zippered pullover. As Winter loses out to Spring, I adapt daily, and gradually, by changing the mix, until it feels right, in terms of a just-right balance of warmth and lightness and comfort for my (still) active chore routine. The heavy fabric takes over from the wool and eventually becomes the undershirt, with a light cotton overshirt, as Summer begins to dominate in mid-May. Overall, the heavier cotton layers act as a good transition from the insulation of wool to part of a more versatile cooling upper body layering combination. Very adaptable in the Maritime climate of the mountains of the Eastern mountains of Northern New England, USA.
